DUDC Trip Planning

The Down Under Dive Club (DUDC) organizes trips and outings for members. Most of these trips are specifically aimed at providing a group scuba diving activity, though other trips are sometimes organized that do not involve scuba diving.

Information provided here relates to planning and preparation for dive trips. The most recent trip information will be at the top.

Unless stated otherwise, payments must be received prior to the club event. Payments and deposits will be refunded with 2 weeks notice of the scheduled event or with a paid replacement. Refunds of money paid after the 2 week cancellation period is subject to board approval. All requests for refunds after this period must be made in writing. Payments and deposits are refunded when dives are cancelled by the charter or DUDC. Non-members add $5.

The Down Under Dive Club is planning a trip to Fantasy Island Beach Resort in Roatan, Honduras. We have two diver slots left. It is slated to happen Saturday, September 8 - 15, 2012. The non-refundable $150 deposit should already be in to reserve your spot. There will be three additional payments.The first payment of $550 is due March 15. The second payment of $550 is due May 15. The final payment of $650 is due July 15.

The package will include air travel from Miami, FL.

Arrive Roatan 9/8 at 4:00PM

The package will also include meals, drinks, and an airport shuttle to/from the resort. It will include 3 daily boat dives, one night dive, and unlimited shore dives. Nitrox is available for the boat dives for an extra fee of $100 for the trip. The resort offers complimentary Internet access.

Scott Newland in the Florida Keys

Scott Newland is planning a dive trip to the Florida Keys. It will be centered on Marathon but will include Key West.

Friday, 3/23 Leave Melbourne early, arriving in Marathon around noon. Do afternoon two-tank dive trip in Marathon.
Saturday, 3/24 Do morning two-tank dive trip in Marathon. Still deciding about afternoon two-tank dive trip and/or night dive.
Sunday, 3/25 Leave early and drive to Key West and then do a double drop on the Vandenburg in the morning. Eat lunch then drive home.

The plan is to stay at Discount Divers Bed and Breakfast. There are five apartments located behind the dive shop. The apartments run about $100/night + $20 for each additional person. The apartments can sleep 3 - 7 singles. The cost of the apartment would range from $52 (3 People) - $35 (7 people) per night. All the apartments are current available that weekend. Staying a a traditional hotel or condo will run about $100/person per night.

The cost for dives would be $70 - $75 dollars per 2 tank dive. The dives operator will depend upon numbers and government bureaucracy. In Marathon, the easiest answer is to go with the guy attached to the bread and breakfast. He can take 6 divers unless his new boat (which carries 22) is certified by that time. If neither of these options is available, another operator will be used. The Key West dive trip will use Captain's Corner.
